Baked Spicy Honey Halibut

This baked spicy honey halibut recipe is sweet, savory, with a bit of a kick. Throwing salt and pepper on a piece of fish is easy but it can get boring really quickly. This fish was incredibly flavorful and super easy to make, I just know you're going to love it!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb halibut two fillets
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red crushed pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves finely minced
  • 1 green chili finely sliced
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients except for the halibut and lemon. Mix well. 
  • Season the halibut fillets on all sides with Kosher salt. 
  • Place the halibut fillets in the spicy honey mixture, and rub the marinade all over. Marinate for at least 20 minutes at room temperature. 
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place the halibut on a baking sheet, cover, and cook for 10 minutes or until fully cooked through. Once the 10 minutes are up, uncover the halibut and pour the remaining sauce over the fish. Broil for 1-2 minutes and enjoy with the sauce and lemon. 

Notes

  • Taste the spicy honey sauce before pouring it over the fish. If you want it spicier, add more red crushed pepper. Want it saltier? Add more soy sauce. And finally, if you want it sweeter, add more honey.
  • Halibut is very expensive so make sure you don't overcook it. I think 10-12 minutes at 400 degrees F is plenty but do keep in mind that every oven is different. The safe internal temperature for cooked fish is 145 degrees F. Also, keep in mind that if the halibut fillet is on the thicker side, it will take longer to cook.
