Ingredients

  • 1.70 lbs ground beef
  • 12 slices American yellow cheese
  • 12 buns
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 2 tablespoons diced pickles
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds optional
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 cup caramelized onions
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Add the ground beef to a skillet and brown it completely, this should take about 10 minutes. Stir in the ketchup, mustard, diced pickles, onion powder, and garlic powder. Season generously with salt and pepper. Cook for an additional minute and then remove it from the heat.
  • Use a serrated knife to slice the rolls in half. Place the bottom layer on a baking sheet and cover it with 6 slices of cheese.
  • Pour the beef mixture all over the sandwiches, you don't have to use all of the beef! You can leave some behind. Then top it off with the caramelized onions and the remaining cheese and bread.
  • Brush the buns with melted butter and top it off with sesame seeds. Bake for 12 minutes uncovered and enjoy!

Notes

  • For best results, use Hawaiian butter rolls. These can be found at most supermarkets. The bread will either make or break these, it's super important that it's fresh and soft.
  • Don't overbake the sliders otherwise, the bread rolls will become hard.
  • American cheese takes longer than other cheeses to melt. If you like the cheese melted completely, place the bottom rolls with the cheese for 2-3 minutes in the oven before adding the ground beef. I personally don't mind if the cheese doesn't melt all the way.
  • If feeding a large crowd, serve the condiments on the side.
  • Enjoy the sliders hot or at room temperature.
  • Taste the beef mixture and adjust the seasonings to your liking.
