Ingredients

  • 6 slices of bacon small diced
  • 1 small vidalia onion
  • 4 16 oz baked beans
  • cup bbq sauce
  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 bunch fresh parsley optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Add the bacon to a 12-inch cast iron or large oven-safe skillet over medium heat.
  • Cook the bacon until crispy, occasionally stirring for 10-15 minutes. Remove the bacon from the pan but save the drippings.
  • Add the onion to the pan and cook until softened, 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the baked beans, bbq sauce, brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and half of the cooked bacon to the pan.
  • Stir until everything is combined, then place the skillet into the oven, uncovered, for 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes until the top is caramelized and sticky.
  • Garnish the beans with the remaining bacon and parsley if using, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • If you don’t like your baked beans as sticky, I suggest to start checking them at the 1-hour point, but to me, the best part about baked beans is that sticky top layer.
  • If you want to add more ingredients to the beans I suggest ½ - 1 cup pulled pork, chopped brisket, chopped smoked sausage, or any smoked meats.
  • For a kick, try adding some cayenne, chipotle powder, crushed red pepper flakes, or your favorite hot sauce.
  • If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, you can prepare the recipe up to step 5, stir everything together then add the mixture to a baking dish and continue with the remaining steps.
