- 1 lb ground turkey
- 10 ounces spaghetti
- 28 ounces crushed tomatoes canned
- 1 small onion finely diced
- 2 garlic cloves finely minced
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- ½ cup water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
- salt and pepper to taste
- parmesan cheese optional
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey, break it up, and cook until browned. This should take about 4-5 minutes.
Stir in the onions, garlic, red pepper, flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning. Cook for 2 minutes.
Add the crushed tomatoes, water, and sugar. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 20 minutes.
While the meat sauce cooks, cook the spaghetti in boiling salted water until its al dente.
Once the 20 minutes are up, season generously with salt and pepper and add the al dente spaghetti. Add a splash of pasta water, check for seasoning, serve with parmesan cheese, if desired, and enjoy.
- I highly recommend adding sugar to balance the acidity of the crushed tomatoes. Also, make sure to season generously with salt and pepper, otherwise, it will turn out bland.
