INGREDIENT NOTES
See the recipe card below for ingredient quantities and complete instructions.
- Ground Turkey – Any type of ground meat will work. Ground sausage, ground beef, or ground chicken will work for this recipe.
- Pasta – Feel free to use whatever pasta you have on hand, just make sure to cook it until it’s al dente for best results.
- Crushed Tomatoes – I used one 28-ounce can of crushed tomatoes but store-bought marinara sauce works as well.
HOW TO MAKE IT
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey, break it up, and cook until browned. This should take about 4-5 minutes.
- Stir in the onions, garlic, red pepper, flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, water, and sugar. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 20 minutes.
- While the meat sauce cooks, cook the spaghetti in boiling salted water until it’s al dente.
- Once the 20 minutes are up, season generously with salt and pepper and add the al dente spaghetti. Add a splash of pasta water, check for seasoning, serve with parmesan cheese, if desired, and enjoy.
TOP TIPS
- I highly recommend adding sugar to balance the acidity of the crushed tomatoes. Also, make sure to season generously with salt and pepper, otherwise, it will turn out bland.
- Feel free to add a splash of red wine to the meat sauce for extra flavor.
STORAGE
