Fried Fish Sandwiches

Fried fish sandwiches make a great meal for busy weeknights. Perfectly seasoned fried cod served on brioche buns with all the fixings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb cod
  • 1 tsp old bay seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp hot sauce
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine the old bay seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  • Season the cod with salt, pepper, and the spice blend on both sides.
  • In a bowl, combine the buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce. In a separate dish, combine the flour, cornmeal, and leftover spice blend.
  • Dip the fish in the buttermilk mixture and then coat it in the flour mixture. Make sure to coat the fish 2-3 times in the flour mixture.
  • Fry the fish for 2-3 minutes on each side and let it rest for 3-4 minutes on a wire rack before eating.

Notes

  • The nutritional facts do not include toppings. 
  • Have all of your toppings ready to go before frying the fish.
  • If you're not a fan of tartar sauce use remoulade sauce or mayo instead.
  • Serve with fresh lemon wedges.
