Ingredient Notes

See the recipe card below for ingredient quantities and complete instructions.

  • Chocolate Chips – I highly recommend using semi-sweet chocolate chips for this recipe. Dark chocolate can make it too bitter, while milk chocolate can make it overly sweet.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder – Just be sure to use unsweetened cocoa powder.
  • Sugar – You’ll need both granulated and light brown sugar for this recipe.

Top Tips

  • Don’t over bake, otherwise the brownie will come out dry. Start checking it around the 25 minute mark.
  • Use good quality chocolate chips and vanilla ice cream for this recipe for best results.
  • Serve with coffee or a cold glass of milk 🙂

Storage

If you have leftovers, remove any ice cream, then cover the brownie or store it in an airtight container at room temperature for 1–2 days. Do not refrigerate.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups semi sweet chocolate chips , divided
  • 1 & ½ sticks unsalted butter , (12 tablespoons)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs, large
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. and grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet.
  • Add 2 cups of chocolate chips and the butter to a bowl, then microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring each time, until fully melted.
  • Once the chocolate is smooth, stir in the brown sugar, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Add the eggs one at a time and mix until well incorporated.
  • Fold in the flour and mix until well incorporated and then fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.
