INGREDIENT NOTES
- Beans – I highly recommend using canned beans for this recipe. They’re super flavorful and are much easier than using dried beans.
- Bacon – Although I used pork bacon, feel free to use turkey bacon or the bacon of your choice. To make these baked beans vegetarian, omit the bacon.
- Brown Sugar – Adds a nice sweet taste, just make sure the brown sugar is soft and fresh.
RECIPE TIPS
- If you don’t like your baked beans as sticky, I suggest to start checking them at the 1-hour point, but to me, the best part about baked beans is that sticky top layer.
- If you want to add more ingredients to the beans I suggest ½ – 1 cup pulled pork, chopped brisket, chopped smoked sausage, or any smoked meats.
- For a kick, try adding some cayenne, chipotle powder, crushed red pepper flakes, or your favorite hot sauce.
- If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, you can prepare the recipe up to step 5, stir everything together then add the mixture to a baking dish and continue with the remaining steps.
STORAGE
Keep leftovers in the fridge for up to 5 days. Freeze for up to 3 months.

- Add the onion to the pan and cook until softened, 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the baked beans, bbq sauce, brown sugar, mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and half of the cooked bacon to the pan.
- Stir until everything is combined, then place the skillet into the oven, uncovered, for 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes until the top is caramelized and sticky.
- Garnish the beans with the remaining bacon and parsley if using, and serve immediately.
