Chipotle baked beans are a must for your next potluck or barbecue. These are super saucy, packed with flavor, and very easy to make. This recipe will feed a crowd and leave everyone more than satisfied.

These beans cook in under 50 minutes and only require a handful of ingredients. Without a doubt, this is the ultimate summer side dish.

If you’ve never tried baked beans, then you are seriously missing out! The best part about this recipe is that it’s super flavorful without using a bunch of ingredients. I also prefer to add all of the flavors myself. I’m not a fan of store-bought baked beans. Although, you can use pork and beans instead of red kidney beans.

The chipotle sauce will certainly add some heat to this. I found that 1/2 cup of it is plenty. Add more if you like it spicy or add less if you prefer it mild. I recommend starting with a couple of tbsp at a time.

    Ingredient’s and Recipe Variations

    • Red Kidney Beans – Rinse and drain them. You can also use chili beans or vegetarian baked beans.
    • Bacon – regular or thick-cut bacon work fine.
    • Onions
    • Garlic
    • Vinegar – White distilled vinegar or red apple cider vinegar are both great options.
    • Worcestershire Sauce
    • Brown Sugar – I highly recommend using brown sugar, but molasses, maple syrup, or white granulated sugar are fine substitutions.
    • Chipotle Sauce – If you can’t find a can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, feel free to use a chipotle bbq sauce or any spicy barbecue sauce of your choice.
    • Water
    • Salt and Pepper

How to Make Chiptole Baked Beans

    1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
    2. Cook the bacon halfway through and then remove it from the skillet. Add the onions to the oven-safe skillet and cook until translucent. Stir in the garlic and cook for 20 seconds. Add in the remaining ingredients, season with salt and pepper, and top the beans off with the bacon.
    3. Bake for 40 minutes.

What Can I Serve This With?

Some honey jalapeno cheddar cornbread and honey-baked turkey wings would compliment these baked beans perfectly. You may also grill some hot dogs and burgers and top them off with these.

Can I Make These in the Slow Cooker?

Yes, absolutely. If you want to cook these in the slow cooker, add all of the ingredients except for the bacon into the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. To thicken the beans, cook uncovered on high for 30-40 minutes or until thickened to your liking. Cook the bacon on a skillet until crisp, and top the beans with the crispy bacon.

Can I use Dried Beans Instead of Canned Beans?

If you want to use dried beans, just make sure to soak them in water overnight.

Once you try these chipotle baked beans, you will never want to make them any other way. I absolutely loved this recipe and know that you will too.

    Notes

Slow Cooker - If you want to cook these in the slow cooker, add all of the ingredients except for the bacon into the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. To thicken the beans, cook uncovered on high for 30-40 minutes or until thickened to your liking. Cook the bacon on a skillet until crisp, and top the beans with the crispy bacon.
Chipotle Sauce - I bought a can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce and used only the sauce.
