These buttermilk chocolate chip waffles are crispy on the outside and super chocolaty and moist on the inside. I love to serve it with lots of softened butter and maple syrup!
I love eating waffles for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner! Recently, I made Southern fried chicken and waffles, and it was so delicious that I craved waffles again the next day. Since I wasn’t in the mood for chicken, I decided to make these chocolate chip waffles instead. Honestly, they were just as good!
INGREDIENT NOTES
See the recipe card below for ingredient quantities and complete instructions.
- Buttermilk – Don’t substitute with milk, it won’t taste the same, and they won’t be as fluffy and delicious! I highly recommend using store-bought buttermilk.
- Flour – Make sure to use regular all-purpose flour, not self-rising or bread flour.
- Butter – Use unsalted butter.
- Chocolate Chips – I prefer using semi-sweet chocolate chips but milk chocolate chips work too!
TOP TIPS
- Don’t overmix the waffle batter, it will be slightly lumpy but that’s ok!
- Let the waffle batter rest for a few minutes before cooking the waffles.
- Spray your waffle machine with nonstick spray so the waffles don’t stick.
- Allow the melted butter to cool for a few minutes so it doesn’t scramble the eggs.
- Serve with lot’s of butter and maple syrup or vanilla ice cream!
LEFTOVERS…
Have leftover waffles? Allow the waffles to cool completely on a wire rack. This prevents them from becoming soggy from trapped steam. Place the cooled waffles in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag. Make sure to separate the layers with parchment paper to prevent them from sticking together. Freeze for up to 3 months. To reheat, simply pop them in the air fryer or toaster until heated through.
