WHY IS IT CALLED MILLION DOLLAR POUND CAKE?

Some say that the cake’s name originated from the idea that it tastes like a million dollars. “Pound” comes from the cake being made with a pound of each of four basic ingredients: flour, butter, sugar, and eggs.

The name “pound cake” has been used since the 1700s and is believed to have originated in Europe.

    INGREDIENTS YOU’LL NEED

SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR INGREDIENT QUANTITIES AND INSTRUCTIONS.

    • Butter – You’ll need four sticks of salted softened butter.
    • Sugar – Use plain ole granulated sugar for best results.
    • Flour – All-purpose flour is recommended.
    • Vanilla Extract and Almond Extract – Feel free to use more or less than the recommended amount.
    • Milk – Whole milk or buttermilk will work for this recipe.
    • Eggs – Take the eggs out of the fridge an hour before baking.
sugar, flour, eggs, butter, milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract.

HOW LONG DO I BAKE IT FOR?

It took 1 hour and 45 minutes at 300 degrees F. but keep in mind that every oven is different and cooking time will vary. I recommend checking it at the 1 hour and 30-minute mark.

    TOP TIPS

    • It’s important to keep in mind that certain areas of the cake may cook quicker than others. To ensure that the cake is cooked evenly, I suggest inserting a knife into 3-4 different sections of the cake. If the knife comes out completely clean, the cake is fully cooked. However, be careful not to overbake it.
    • Make sure that the butter is softened and the eggs are at room temperature.
    • For best results, use good-quality butter and real vanilla extract. Avoid imitation vanilla extract.

    STORAGE

Allow the cake to cool completely, then place it in an air-tight container and keep it at room temperature for up to 2-3 days.
