Cheese and guava pastries that are perfect for breakfast for dessert!

Saying I love these is an understatement. I am obsessed and have been since I was crawling. My family would always buy these from a bakery because well they kind of look difficult to make at home if you’re not an avid baker. They can be a bit tedious to make if you make the puff pastry from scratch, however, I use store-bought puff pastry. I wouldn’t lie to you, they taste exactly like the ones at the bakery. If you summer in Miami Florida and have never tried these little darlings, do make sure you get one next time you visit. I prefer them warm with a cup of coffee.

These Cuban pastries are filled with guava and cheese. They're great with a cup of coffee or as a dessert after a meal.

    Ingredients

    • 1 package puff pastry
    • 8 ounces guava paste
    • 8 ounces cream cheese

    Simple Syrup

    • 1/4 cup sugar
    • 1/4 cup water

    Egg Wash

    • 1 egg
    • 1 tbsp water

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
    • Thaw the puff pastry according to packaging instructions
    • Add the water and sugar to a sauce pan and cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves
    • Remove the water and sugar mixture from the heat and let it cool completely
    • Unfold each sheet of puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out so its about an inch bigger
    • Cut each pastry sheet into 4 squares, place a slice of guava paste and cream cheese in the center of each square
    • Brush the edges with the egg wash and seal it in a triangle shape
    • Place the triangles on a lined baking sheet, brush the tops with the egg wash and make a slit in the center so the steam can release
    • Bake the triangles for 25 minutes
    • Brush them with the simple syrup and enjoy

What brand of puff pastry do you happen to use? I’m going to try to make these. Haven’t had a good one since I got to Jersey 🙂

Hi Nick, I always use pepperidge farm but if you can find a better quality brand, I’d say go for it. I don’t have many options at my local grocery store. The only brands are pepperidge farm and the generic brand. Let me know how it turns out 🙂

I forgot to let you know how they turned out. They were amazing 🙂 I ended up making 3 types. Guayaba, Carne and Guayaba y queso. Better than Vicky bakery or whatever bakery your family visits when you’re in south Florida 🙂

          Thanks again!
