INGREDIENT NOTES

See the recipe card below for ingredient quantities and complete instructions.

  • Peanut Butter – I highly recommend using good quality creamy peanut butter for best results.
  • Sugar – Powdered sugar is a must for this recipe.
  • Butter – Make sure to use unsalted butter softened at room temperature.
  • Chocolate – I really love Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers for this recipe. It’s perfectly sweet and melts beautifully without having to add any oil!
  • Peanuts – I like to garnish the peanut butter balls with crushed peanuts but this is completely optional! Also, feel free to use whatever crushed nuts you have on hand if you don’t have peanuts.
ingredients for peanut butter balls.

HOW TO MAKE IT

  • In a large bowl, mix the softened unsalted butter and peanut butter until smooth. This should take about 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the powdered sugar and mix until well combined. It should look like cookie dough. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Once the hour is up, remove the mixture from the fridge and roll it into 1-inch balls. Freeze the balls for 1-2 hours.
  • Finally, dip each peanut butter ball in the melted chocolate and garnish with crushed peanuts. I like using a fork to dip the balls in the chocolate but feel free to use a toothpick or spoon instead.

TOP TIPS

  • It is crucial that the peanut butter balls are chilled when dipping them in chocolate otherwise the filling will soften way too much and the balls won’t hold it’s shape.
  • If you want a little bit of crunch, add some crushed peanuts to the peanut butter mixture.
  • These make great cake pops! Simply put the lollipop stick into the peanut butter balls but not all the way. Next, dip the whole peanut butter ball with the stick into the melted chocolate until it’s completely covered. I recommend pouring the melted chocolate into a tall glass if making cake pops.

CAN I ADD PROTEIN POWDER?

Absolutely, but if using flavored protein, keep in mind that it will alter the taste. I recommend using peanut butter protein or unflavored protein powder.

DO I HAVE TO COAT THESE IN CHOCOLATE?

No! Once you roll the peanut butter filling into balls, freeze them for at least an hour, and then allow them to thaw on your counter for 25-30 minutes before serving.

STORAGE

Place these in an air-tight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days. However, these taste best when enjoyed at room temperature. I recommend taking them out of the fridge 30 minutes before serving.
