    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

As if the fact that they taste even better than P.F. Changs’ infamous lettuce wraps wasn’t enough to convince you to make this recipe, these chicken lettuce wraps are also:

    • Made with low-carb ingredients for a high protein, healthy meal.
    • Unbelievably quick and easy to make.
    • Versatile to fit all your preferences and needs.
    • Great to prepare ahead of time.

    Ingredients You’ll Need

This recipe uses just a handful of ingredients for a savory flavor and satisfying crunchy texture. Here’s what you’ll need:

    • Sesame Oil – Provides a delicious, slightly nutty flavor.
    • Ground Chicken – Ground chicken works best as its crumbly texture makes it easy to fill the lettuce wraps and eat. Ground turkey can be used in its place for a similar taste and texture, if you prefer.
    • Salt and Pepper – Use as little or as much as you’d like.
    • Garlic – Everything tastes better with garlic! Chop up fresh cloves to infuse extra savoriness into the dish.
    • Water Chestnuts – I buy diced water chestnuts in a can and drain them before adding them to the dish. However, if you can’t find diced water chestnuts, just opt for sliced or whole varieties, and dice them yourself!
    • Hoisin Sauce – A thick sauce, hoisin is sweet and salty in taste and can easily be found in the Asian section of most grocery stores.
    • Lettuce – Boston bibb lettuce works best. Just be sure to wash it and pat it dry.
    • Green Onions – Used for a pop of color and added crunch.
    • Crushed Peanuts – Technically optional, I love the extra crunchy texture peanuts add to these chicken lettuce wraps.

    FAQs

Can I make chicken lettuce wraps ahead of time?

Yes, technically, they will last in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. However, I find their best eaten within a day or two while the lettuce is still crisp.

What goes well with lettuce wraps?

These chicken lettuce wraps can easily be served on their own but also pair well as an appetizer with all your favorite meals, such as spicy peanut noodles or spicy honey shrimp and broccoli!

What’s the best type of lettuce for lettuce wraps?

I use Bibb lettuce, but any type of large, crisp lettuce leaves like Romaine or Iceberg will work.

    Top Tips

    • Dice Small. Make sure to dice your ingredients into bite-sized pieces so that the mixture is easy to layer on the lettuce wraps and eat.
    • Don’t Overfill Your Wraps. You want to leave enough lettuce to fold over and create an easy-to-hold wrap. If you add too much filling, your chicken lettuce wraps will likely break and spill all over the place.

    Recipe Variations

For these lettuce wraps, I kept the recipe super simple. However, feel free to experiment and make it your own! For instance, some of my favorite variations include:

    • Swapping out the chicken with turkey, beef, or shrimp.
    • Adding extra sliced veggies such as carrots, bell pepper, or mushrooms.
    • Including a dash of Sriracha for a bit of heat. I highly recommend it!
