This garlic buttery rice is light, fluffy, and super flavorful. Made with just 4 ingredients in under 20 minutes! If you love quick and easy rice recipes, then this is the one for you.

Other favorites include Spanish rice and this instant pot cilantro lime rice.

You don’t need a rice cooker to make perfect fluffy rice. In fact, I believe the best rice is made on the stovetop. All you need is a saucepan with a lid and a few simple ingredients to make this fail-proof garlic butter rice. It’s buttery, garlicky, and incredibly delicious.

    Ingredient Notes

    • Rice – I used Jasmine rice but long grain or basmati rice will work too.
    • Butter – Unsalted butter is what I use because I always add 1 tsp of salt for every cup of rice and it’s plenty. If using salted butter, add a little less than 1 tsp of salt.
    • Water – If you don’t want to use water, feel free to use chicken stock or vegetable stock instead.
    • Garlic – Use fresh garlic for best results.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

    1. In a medium saucepan, melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat. Once the butter melts, add the minced garlic and cook for 10 seconds.
    2. Add the water and salt and let it come to a boil. Once it comes to a boil, stir in the rice, cover, and reduce the heat to low. Cook for 15 minutes and don’t uncover the rice while it cooks.
    3. Once the 15 minutes are up, uncover and fluff the rice with a fork. Stir in 1 tbsp of butter and check for seasoning.
    4. Garnish with remaining butter and fresh parsley, if desired. Enjoy immediately.

Top Tips For The Perfect Garlic Buttery Rice

    • Make sure to cover the rice with a lid and cook on low heat. If you cook the rice on high heat, it may burn and stick to the bottom of the saucepan.
    • Avoid stainless steel saucepans and use a nonstick saucepan.
    • Rinsing the rice is optional. For best results, rinse the rice in a fine-mesh strainer under cold water. Rinse until the water runs clear.

    Serving Suggestions

Rice is usually a side dish, it can be served with any recipe. However, I love serving this with garlic butter steak tips, smothered chicken breasts, or creamy garlic shrimp.

    Storage

Place any leftovers in an air-tight container and refrigerate for up to 2 days. To reheat, add a splash of water to the rice and microwave for 15-20 seconds.
