This baked spicy honey halibut recipe is sweet, savory, with a bit of a kick. Throwing salt and pepper on a piece of fish is easy but it can get boring really quickly. This fish was incredibly flavorful and super easy to make, I just know you’re going to love it!

A vegetable salad and Jasmine rice on the side would be a great choice.

This baked halibut is the easiest weeknight meal you can make. The trick to this recipe is to serve it with extra sauce on the side. Especially if your halibut pieces are on the thicker side. Don’t forget to serve it with white rice to soak up all that delicious sauce. Also, feel free to double or triple the sauce recipe because yes, it’s that good! It even goes great with chicken, shrimp, or vegetables. For more easy fish recipes, check out this air fryer honey Chilean sea bass and pan-seared crusted halibut.

    Ingredient Notes

    • Halibut – Fresh or frozen is fine, just make sure it’s fully thawed before marinating. Make sure it isn’t sticky and doesn’t have a smell to it. If you can’t find halibut feel free to use striped bass or cod.
    • Green Chili – Adds spice, crunch, and flavor.
    • Honey – Aside from the halibut, this is the star of the recipe!
    • Soy Sauce – Helps to thin out the sauce and adds flavor.
    • Garlic – Use fresh for best results.
    • Red Crushed Pepper – If you like it extra spicy, don’t omit it. It adds a lot of heat.
    • Cayenne Pepper – If you don’t have it on hand use hot paprika instead. If you don’t have hot paprika, add extra red crushed pepper or green chilies.
    • Lemon – Optional
    • Paprika – Adds color.
    • Salt and Pepper – Balances all the flavors.

How To Make Baked Spicy Honey Halibut

    1. In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients except for the halibut and lemon. Mix well.
    2. Season the halibut fillets on all sides with Kosher salt.
    3. Place the halibut fillets in the spicy honey mixture, and rub the marinade all over. Marinate for at least 20 minutes at room temperature.
    4. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place the halibut on a baking sheet, cover, and cook for 10 minutes or until fully cooked through. Once the 10 minutes are up, uncover the halibut and pour the remaining sauce over the fish. Broil for 1-2 minutes and enjoy with the sauce and lemon.

    Top Tips & Variations

    • Taste the spicy honey sauce before pouring it over the fish. If you want it spicier, add more red crushed pepper. Want it saltier? Add more soy sauce. And finally, if you want it sweeter, add more honey.
    • Halibut is very expensive so make sure you don’t overcook it. I think 10-12 minutes at 400 degrees F is plenty but do keep in mind that every oven is different. The safe internal temperature for cooked fish is 145 degrees F. Also, keep in mind that if the halibut fillet is on the thicker side, it will take longer to cook.

    Leftovers

I find that seafood is best when enjoyed fresh, however, if you find yourself with leftovers, simply place it in an air-tight container and refrigerate for up to 2 days. To reheat, wrap the fish loosely in tinfoil and bake at 400 degrees F for 5-7 minutes.
