These cheeseburger sliders are made with ground beef, cheese, Hawaiian rolls, and caramelized onions. The perfect appetizer or main course for a busy weeknight, game day, or potluck!
They’re juicy, cheesy, delicious, and super easy to make! Enjoy them with chips, onion rings, French fries, or coleslaw.
I love sliders because they’re easy to make and feed a crowd! I always make them with soft buttery Hawaiian rolls although feel free to use sweet rolls or dinner rolls instead. These sliders really taste like little cheeseburgers because of the ketchup, sesame seeds, and yellow American cheese. However, the sweet onions take these to the next level! More of my favorite cheeseburger recipes are these classic cheeseburgers and air fryer cheeseburger egg rolls.
Ingredient Notes
- Ground Beef – I used 1.70 lbs of 80/20 ground beef. Ground turkey works too!
- Cheese – Although I prefer American yellow cheese for this recipe, any type of cheese will work.
- Bread – Use Hawaiian rolls for best results.
- Sesame Seeds – Completely optional.
- Mustard – It adds good flavor but feel free to use mayo instead.
- Ketchup – It adds so much flavor!
- Butter – A little bit of butter helps the rolls to get nice and toasty.
- Caramelized Onions – Homemade caramelized onions are so easy to make but feel free to use store-bought onion jam if you wish.
Top Tips For The Ultimate Cheeseburger Sliders
- For best results, use Hawaiian butter rolls. These can be found at most supermarkets. The bread will either make or break these, it’s super important that it’s fresh and soft.
- Don’t overbake the sliders otherwise, the bread rolls will become hard.
- American cheese takes longer than other cheeses to melt. If you like the cheese melted completely, place the bottom rolls with the cheese for 2-3 minutes in the oven before adding the ground beef. I personally don’t mind if the cheese doesn’t melt all the way.
- If feeding a large crowd, serve the condiments on the side.
- Enjoy the sliders hot or at room temperature.
- Taste the beef mixture and adjust the seasonings to your liking.
Can I Make These Ahead Of Time?
Absolutely! Assemble the sliders and stop right before adding the melted butter. Cover and refrigerate until you’re ready to bake. Allow the sliders to come to room temperature and brush the top buns with butter before baking.
Storage
Place any leftovers in an air-tight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. To reheat the sliders, simply microwave them for a few seconds or until heated through.

Cheeseburger Sliders with Caramelized Onions
Ingredients
- 1.70 lbs ground beef
- 12 slices American yellow cheese
- 12 buns
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 teaspoons mustard
- 2 tablespoons diced pickles
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, optional
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup caramelized onions
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Add the ground beef to a skillet and brown it completely, this should take about 10 minutes. Stir in the ketchup, mustard, diced pickles, onion powder, and garlic powder. Season generously with salt and pepper. Cook for an additional minute and then remove it from the heat.
- Use a serrated knife to slice the rolls in half. Place the bottom layer on a baking sheet and cover it with 6 slices of cheese.
- Pour the beef mixture all over the sandwiches, you don't have to use all of the beef! You can leave some behind. Then top it off with the caramelized onions and the remaining cheese and bread.
- Brush the buns with melted butter and top it off with sesame seeds. Bake for 12 minutes uncovered and enjoy!
