INGREDIENT NOTES & SUBSTITUTIONS

See the recipe card below for ingredient quantities and complete instructions.

  • Bananas – You’ll need 2 large ripe bananas and they must be ripe! Ripe bananas will add moisture and sweetness to your bars.
  • Butter – Unsalted and softened at room temperature.
  • Brown Sugar – Make sure it’s soft and fresh. If your brown sugar is expired or hard, your bars won’t turn out good.

TOP TIPS

  • Don’t overmix the batter or overbake the bars. I baked them at 350 degrees F. for 34 minutes and they were perfect but start checking them at the 30 minute mark.
  • Allow the chocolate banana bars to cool for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing into them.
  • Serve them warm with vanilla ice cream for best results!

STORAGE

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter , softened
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. and line an 8×8 baking dish with parchment paper.
  • Mix the softened butter and brown sugar for 2-3 minutes. Add the bananas and mix until well combined. The batter will curdle, but that's okay.
  • Add the egg and mix until well combined. Then add the flour and salt until well incorporated. Make sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips, then pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake for 34 minutes or until the center is fully set. Allow the bars to cool for 10 minutes, and enjoy!
