air fryer filet mignon with garlic butter

One of my favorite meals includes filet mignon and creamy mashed potatoes. Perfect for date night and it costs way less to make it at home!

Why I Love This Air Fryer Filet Mignon Recipe

  • It’s low carb and keto-friendly.
  • The garlic butter adds so much flavor! All you need is sea salt, black pepper, steaks, and a dollop of homemade garlic butter.
  • Although I only used kosher salt and crushed black pepper to season the steaks, feel free to use your favorite steak seasonings.

Ingredient Notes

Beef Filet Mignon – Comes from the tenderloin and is super lean. If you want a more fatty cut, use ribeye or a steak with lots of marbling. Feel free to use any type of steak you prefer, just make sure to adjust the cooking time.

Garlic – Make sure to use fresh! Avoid garlic powder or store-bought minced garlic. Because filet mignon is super pricey, make sure you make the best of it and use good quality ingredients.

How To Make

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  2. Brush the olive oil over the steaks and season liberally with sea salt and crushed black pepper on both sides.
  3. Cook the steaks for 6 minutes, flip it, and cook for an additional 3 minutes for medium-rare.
  4. To make the garlic butter, mix the softened unsalted butter, fresh minced garlic, and fresh chives. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Remove the steaks from the air fryer and let them rest for 10 minutes. Serve the steaks with garlic butter and enjoy!

How Long Should I Cook Steak In The Air Fryer?

  • For rare, cook for 5-6 minutes total or until it reaches an internal temperature of 130 degrees F.
  • For medium-rare, cook for 9-10 minutes total or until it reaches 135 degrees F. Medium rare will be slight to the touch with slight resistance.
  • Medium should be cooked for 11-12 minutes or until it reaches 145 degrees F.
  • Well done steak should be cooked for 15 minutes or until it reaches 160 degrees F. Well done will be very firm.

Can I Make This Without An Air Fryer?

Absolutely! Preheat your traditional oven to 400 degrees F. Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the steaks for 2 minutes on each side then transfer them to the oven and cook for 6 minutes for medium-rare. For medium, cook 7-8 minutes and for well done, cook for 10-12 minutes.

Top Tips

  • Let the steak sit at room temperature for at least 20 minutes before cooking it. Otherwise, it will cook unevenly.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer!
  • I highly recommend enjoying this the day you cook it, but any leftovers should be stored in an air-tight container and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
