These air fryer bbq chicken breasts are seasoned with a homemade dry rub and smothered with bbq sauce. They’re sticky on the outside and juicy on the inside! No marinade needed!
Great on top of a salad or served with your favorite starch and veggies. It’s super easy to make, requires minimal ingredients, and cooks perfectly in under 15 minutes!

Ingredient Notes
- Chicken Breasts – Make sure to thaw the chicken breasts completely, if using frozen, and trim off any excess fat.
- Spices – Paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. If you can’t tolerate spice, simply omit the cayenne pepper.
- BBQ Sauce – Use your favorite brand!
How To Cook Chicken In The Air Fryer
Prep Chicken: Pat dry the chicken with a paper towel and drizzle olive oil on both sides. Season the chicken on both sides with kosher salt, black pepper, and the spice rub.
Air Fry: Place the chicken in the air fryer and cook at 370 degrees F for 10 minutes. Once the 10 minutes are up, brush the chicken breasts with bbq sauce, increase the temperature to 400 degrees and cook for 2 minutes. Once the 2 minutes are up, flip the chicken breasts, brush them with bbq sauce and cook for 2 minutes. The chicken cooked for a total of 14 minutes.
Helpful Tips
- Make sure the chicken breasts are about the same size so they cook evenly.
- The thicker the chicken breasts are, the more seasoning they will need. Season the chicken breasts on both sides generously for the best results!

- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper , optional
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ¼ cup bbq sauce , or more if needed
- salt and pepper to taste
- nonstick spray
Instructions
- Spray your air fryer basket with nonstick spray and combine the paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder in a small bowl.

- Place the chicken in the air fryer and cook at 370 degrees F for 10 minutes.
