Bbq grilled shrimp skewers are a tradition at my summer cookouts. What I love most about this recipe is how quickly these cook. You can use small, medium, or jumbo shrimp. Just keep in mind that jumbo shrimp take a little longer to cook. If you like these grilled shrimp, you may also like these Southern fried shrimp and these honey chili lime shrimp.

    Ingredient Notes

    • Shrimp – For best results, use raw, peeled, and deveined shrimp.
    • Spice Blend – I used a combination of Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. You can use your favorite spices or just salt and pepper.
    • BBQ Sauce – I love sweet baby Ray’s bbq sauce but feel free to use your favorite brand.
raw shrimp, bbq sauce, garlic cloves, spices, olive oil, and lemon.

    How To Make

    1. If using wooden skewers, make sure to soak them in water for at least 30 minutes otherwise they can burn.
    2. In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning. Mix well.
    3. Add the shrimp, spice mixture, oil, and garlic to a large bowl and mix until well combined.
    4. Thread shrimp onto skewers. I did about 4 shrimp per skewer.
    5. Heat your grill to about 400 degrees F. and lightly oil the grill so the shrimp don’t stick.
    6. Place the skewers on the grill and sear for about 2 minutes. Flip the skewers and brush the shrimp with bbq sauce. Cook for about 1 minute then flip and brush with bbq sauce. Continue flipping the shrimp and brushing them with bbq sauce until they’re fully cooked through.
    7. Serve with fresh lemon and enjoy!

    Top Tips

    • Don’t overcook the shrimp otherwise, they will become tough and rubbery.
    • Avoid using cooked shrimp for this recipe.

How To Tell If Shrimp Are Cooked…

Once the shrimp is no longer translucent and becomes white with pink streaks, it’s fully cooked through.

    Storage

If you have any leftovers, the shrimp will last about 2-3 days in the refrigerator.
