These air fryer honey bbq wings are coated in a sweet and tangy sauce and cooked to perfection. The perfect appetizer for game day or any get-together!
Or you can serve these with 4 cheese mac and cheese and creamy coleslaw for a complete dinner meal.
I’m not kidding when I say that I’m obsessed with my air fryer. I recently made air fryer chicken wings, air fryer chicken tenders, and air fryer turkey wings. Once you start using an air fryer, there’s no turning back!
Why You’ll Love These Chicken Wings
- They’re juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside.
- Packed with flavor and perfectly caramelized.
- They cook a lot quicker than they would in the oven.
- Requires just a handful of ingredients.
- Sweet, savory, and insanely delicious!
- No dipping sauce required.
Ingredient Notes
- Chicken Wings – I highly recommend using small skin-on bone-in chicken wings. The smaller the wing, the tastier they are in my opinion. They also cook a lot quicker. If using bigger chicken wings, make sure to adjust the cooking time.
- BBQ Sauce – Feel free to use your favorite brand. I really like sweet baby Ray’s original barbecue sauce.
- Spices – I used a combination of paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. You may use your favorite spices to season the chicken wings. You can also use chipotle powder or Cajun seasoning if you like it extra flavorful.
Step-By-Step Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F. and spray the basket with cooking spray.
- In a small bowl, combine the paprika, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Pat dry the chicken wings with a paper towel and drizzle with olive oil. Season the chicken wings with the spice mixture.
- Lay the chicken wings skin side up, in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Make sure not to overcrowd the basket.
- Cook for 15 minutes. While the chicken wings cook, combine the honey and bbq sauce. Taste it and adjust if needed. If it’s too sweet for your liking, add more bbq sauce.
- Once the 15 minutes are up, remove the chicken wings from the air fryer and place them in a bowl. Add the honey bbq sauce to the bowl and mix until the chicken wings are fully coated with the sauce.
- Add the chicken wings back to the air fryer and cook for an additional 3-6 mins. Allow the chicken wings to cool for a few minutes and enjoy!
Top Tips
- Don’t coat raw chicken wings with honey bbq sauce otherwise, the sauce will burn. Honey burns extremely quickly so make sure to add it towards the end!
- If you want to make the sauce a little spicy, add a few splashes of sriracha sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- Although these don’t really need a dipping sauce, feel free to serve these with ranch, blue cheese, or spicy aioli.
- Don’t have bbq sauce or honey on hand? Feel free to use honey mustard instead!
- This recipe makes a small batch but feel free to double or triple this recipe if feeding a crowd.
Storage
Place any leftovers in an air-tight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them back in the air fryer and cook for 5-7 mins at 300 degrees F.
