Do you have a wedding coming up and would like to lose a couple lbs quickly? Then try this. I truly enjoy this soup although by day 7 I don’t want to go near it. The first couple of days are tough but by day 3 I start blending the soup for a little variety. There is a lot of chopping involved but you can purchase pre-cut veggies if you’d like. You don’t have to make this for the sole purpose of dieting. This soup is very tasty and you can even add noodles and make it for dinner. My grandpa loves this soup and he does not diet so my grandmother makes this soup occasionally but a tad bit different. She adds mushrooms, corn, and noodles.
The cabbage soup diet does lead to rapid weight loss, however, most of it is water weight so the weight is typically gained back as soon as you go back to a normal diet. This does work great as a detox cleanse and it also helps calm your taste buds a bit. Wait a couple of months before trying this diet again.
So if you do decide to give this diet a try then here is a list of what you should eat for the 7 days.
Day 1: Eat cabbage soup (as much as you’d like) and fruits. Preferably fruits with low sugar. Melon and apples are great. No bananas.
Day 2: Eat cabbage soup (as much as you’d like) and vegetables. Preferably green veggies, stay away from starchy vegetables.
Day 3: Eat cabbage soup (as much as you’d like) fruits and vegetables. No starchy vegetables. No bananas.
Day 4: Eat cabbage soup (as much as you’d like) bananas and skim milk.
Day 5: Eat cabbage soup (as much as you’d like) and protein. Turkey, skinless chicken breasts, or fish.
Day 6: Eat cabbage soup (as much as you’d like) beef and vegetables.
Day 7: Hooray!! Eat cabbage soup (as much as you’d like) unsweetened fruit juices, brown rice, and vegetables.
Detox Cabbage Soup Diet Recipe
This cabbage soup is a go-to recipe for a 7-day detox diet. Customize it with noodles or spices for a delicious dinner.

- 1/2 head of cabbage
- 6 celery stalks
- 1 large onion
- 1 green bell pepper
- 5 garlic cloves
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tsp oregano
- 14 ounce can diced tomatoes
- 8 cups of chicken or vegetable stock
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Warm up some oil in a large pot over medium high heat.
- Cook the onions, celery, and peppers until translucent.
- Add the red pepper flakes, oregano, and season with salt and pepper.
- Stir in the garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Add the chicken stock, diced tomatoes, and cabbage.
- Cook until the cabbage is tender (10-15 minutes).
- Season with salt if desired and enjoy!
