Why I Love This Air Fryer Whole Chicken

    • It’s juicy, tender, and has the most amazing crispy skin.
    • Leftovers can be used to make chicken wraps, salads, or dips.
    • Packed with flavor!
    • You don’t need a big baking dish, all you need is your air fryer.

    Ingredient Notes

Whole Chicken – Make sure to use a 4-5 lb chicken that doesn’t have any type of odor. Fresh chicken should be pink in color and plump. Remember to remove the giblets.

    Top Tips

    • Make sure to season the chicken all over and especially under the skin.
    • When seasoning under the skin, be careful not to tear the skin.
    • Make sure to pat dry the chicken with a paper towel before seasoning. It should be very dry.
    • Let the chicken sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before cooking. Avoid cooking chicken straight out of the fridge.
    • Feel free to use your favorite store-bought seasoning blend if you prefer. You can also season it with chipotle seasoning or Cajun seasoning.
    • Place any leftovers in an air-tight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
    • Serve with warm barbecue sauce, hot sauce, or honey mustard.

How Do You Know When The Chicken Is Fully Cooked?

The safe cooking temperature for chicken is 165 degrees F. Make sure to use an instant-read thermometer. Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the chicken.

Can I Make This In The Instant Pot Instead?

Yes, of course. You can use this instant pot whole chicken recipe instead!

    Can I Marinate It Overnight?

Yes, the longer you marinate the chicken, the better it will taste. However, you can certainly marinate it just 10 minutes before cooking.

This air fryer whole chicken is seasoned and cooked to perfection in just 55 minutes! A quick and easy way to cook chicken that comes out perfect every single time.

    Equipment

    • air fryer

    Ingredients

    • 4.5 lb whole chicken
    • 1/4 cup olive oil
    • 2 tsp garlic powder
    • 1 tsp paprika
    • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
    • 1/2 lemon juiced
    • salt and pepper to taste

    Instructions

    • Discard the giblets and pat dry the chicken with a paper towel.
    • In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, lemon juice, paprika, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
    • Rub the chicken with the oil mixture all over and under the skin.
    • Spray your air fryer basket with nonstick spray.
    • Place the chicken in the air fryer basket breast side down. Turn the air fryer on to 360 degrees F. Cook the chicken for 30 minutes. Flip the chicken over, season the skin with extra salt and pepper, and cook for an additional 25 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer reaches 165 F.
    • Remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing it.

    Notes

    • I used a 7 qt air fryer.
    • Make sure to season the chicken all over and especially under the skin.
