This is hands down my favorite air fryer shrimp tacos recipe! These are loaded with fresh cabbage, perfectly cooked shrimp, and homemade avocado crema.

Enjoy these tacos with yellow rice and refried beans for a complete dinner meal.

I love shrimp and tacos so when someone requested shrimp tacos, I was on it! These are so flavorful and the shrimp cook in just 6 minutes. Keep in mind that shrimp don’t cook as quickly in an air fryer as they do on the stovetop. 6 minutes may seem like a lot, but it’s not. The shrimp were juicy, flavorful, and absolutely mouth-watering. More of my favorite taco recipes include chorizo tacos, Cajun beef tacos, and carne asada tacos.

    Ingredient Notes

    • Shrimp – I highly recommend using peeled and deveined medium shrimp. If using frozen shrimp, make sure to thaw completely. Avoid cooked shrimp. If using large shrimp, adjust the cooking time to 7-8 minutes.
    • Tortillas – You may use corn or flour tortillas just make sure to warm them up!
    • Brown Sugar – Helps to balance the spices and sweetens things up a bit. Feel free to use honey instead.
    • Avocado Crema – If you’re not a fan of crema, make a batch of guacamole instead.
    • Cabbage – Shredded red or white cabbage works for this recipe.
    • Cayenne Pepper – Adds a little bit of spice, if you don’t like spicy food, feel free to omit it.

    Step-By-Step Instructions

    1. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, oregano, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
    2. Drizzle the shrimp with olive oil and season with the spice mixture, salt, and pepper.
    3. Spray your air fryer basket with cooking spray and add the shrimp to the basket. Spread the shrimp out and make sure you don’t overcrowd the air fryer.
    4. Cook at 400 degrees F. for 6 minutes.
    5. While the shrimp cook, warm the corn tortillas and shred the cabbage.
    6. To assemble the shrimp tacos, start by spreading a generous layer of avocado crema on the tortilla. Lay 4-5 shrimp on top of the tortilla and top with cabbage and lime juice.

Top Tips For The Perfect Air Fryer Shrimp Tacos

    • Feel free to top these tacos with cotija cheese, hot sauce, avocado, and sliced jalapenos for extra flavor!
    • Don’t have shrimp on hand? You can make these with fish, lobster, or chicken instead!
    • Be careful not to overcook the shrimp, doing so will cause tough and rubbery shrimp.
    • You can cook the shrimp on the stovetop if you don’t own an air fryer. To cook on the stovetop, add 2 tbsp of oil to a skillet. Once the oil gets hot, add the shrimp and cook for 1 minute on each side or until the shrimp are fully cooked through. Keep in mind that shrimp cook very quickly on the stovetop.

How To Tell The Shrimp Are Fully Cooked?

If the shrimp are light pink, they’re cooked. If the shrimp are translucent in some areas, then they’re undercooked. The safe cooking temperature for cooked shrimp is 120 degrees F.

    Storing Leftovers

Any leftovers should be placed in an air-tight container and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
